Marketing manager CV example: structure, sample text and tips
In marketing, proof is measured in numbers, not adjectives. This page shows you how to build a marketing manager CV that recruiters take seriously: which sections to prioritize, concrete example text, common mistakes, and answers to the most-asked questions.
Why marketing CVs often miss the mark
Marketers are trained to tell stories, and that sometimes backfires on their own CV: lots of 'creative energy', 'passion for brands' and 'data-driven mindset', but few concrete results. Recruiters and hiring managers in marketing are especially critical of proof, because that's literally the job: showing what works, with numbers.

What structure works for a marketing CV?
With a few years of experience, everything revolves around your track record. Work experience moves up, education moves down.
1. Personal details
Name, job title, email, phone number, city, and a link to your LinkedIn or portfolio.
2. Profile summary
3-4 sentences: role + years of experience, sector focus (B2B/B2C, e-commerce, SaaS), and your biggest demonstrable result. For example: 'Marketer with 5 years of experience, increased revenue by 20% through data-driven campaigns.'
3. Work experience
Per role: title, company, period, and 2-4 bullets with concrete results. Each bullet starts with an action verb and ends with a number: percentage, amount, or count.
4. Skills & tools
Split into channels (SEO, SEA, social, email) and tools (Google Analytics, HubSpot, Marketo, Meta Ads Manager). Only list what you use independently, not every tool you've ever clicked on.
5. Education
Institution, degree, period. With 5+ years of experience: keep it brief, no more thesis details needed.
6. Certificates
Google Ads, Google Analytics, or HubSpot Academy certificates show you stay current in your field. Mention them with the date earned.
7. Optional: languages, side activities
Language proficiency for international roles, and relevant side activities (e.g. speaker at a marketing event, own newsletter with reach).

Example profile summary
Marketing manager with 6 years of experience in B2B SaaS. Increased MQL-to-SQL conversion by 34% through a revamped lead nurturing flow, and managed a team of 4 marketers with a combined annual budget of €450k. Looking for a growth role that combines brand and performance.
Example campaign bullet
❌ Weak: "Responsible for social media campaigns"
✓ Strong: "Launched a LinkedIn campaign that generated 340 qualified leads in 8 weeks, at a cost-per-lead 22% below benchmark"
Example skills bullet
❌ Weak: "Familiar with Google Analytics, HubSpot, Canva, Photoshop, Mailchimp, Hootsuite..."
✓ Strong: "Daily use: Google Analytics 4, HubSpot (marketing + sales hub), Google Ads. Basic knowledge: Canva, Mailchimp"
5 mistakes that sink marketing CVs
The pitfalls recruiters in marketing encounter most often.
Buzzwords without proof
'Data-driven', 'creative', 'results-oriented' - everyone writes it, no one proves it. Replace every buzzword with a concrete example backed by a number.
Describing campaigns without results
'Responsible for the content calendar' says nothing about impact. Always add what it delivered: reach, engagement, leads, conversion, or revenue.
Listing every tool you've ever touched
A list of 15 tools you've 'worked with at some point' dilutes your profile. Name the 5-6 tools you use daily, and be honest about your level.
No link to portfolio or campaigns
Marketing is a visual, demonstrable field. Add a link to your portfolio, LinkedIn, or specific campaigns you've created (with employer permission where needed).
Too much focus on older roles
Recruiters mainly look at your last 2-3 roles. Describe your most recent position in the most detail, and keep older roles brief.

Which template should a marketer choose?
For marketing roles, 'Modern' works well: a fresh design that fits the field without sacrificing ATS readability. Applying for a leadership role? Then 'Executive Pro' fits the expected tone better.

What goes at the top of my marketing CV?▾
A profile summary of 3-4 sentences with your role, years of experience, sector focus, and your biggest demonstrable result. Marketing recruiters scan this first, and it's your chance to deliver proof instead of a promise right away.
Should I add a portfolio to my CV?▾
Add a link to your LinkedIn or a separate portfolio (e.g. a simple page with campaign examples), but don't paste full images into the CV itself - that doesn't work well with ATS systems.
Which tools should I mention on my CV?▾
Only the tools you use independently and regularly. Consider splitting into 'daily use' and 'basic knowledge' so a recruiter can immediately see where you're strong.
How do I show campaign results if the numbers are confidential?▾
Use percentages or relative growth instead of absolute amounts: '34% conversion increase' instead of a revenue figure. This is often allowed and says just as much about your impact.
Is a visual/creative template better for marketing?▾
A subtly distinctive design is fine, but don't overdo it. Recruiters often use ATS systems that read complex layouts poorly. Choose a template that looks fresh but is simply structured, like 'Modern'.
How many pages can my CV be with 5+ years of experience?▾
Maximum 2 pages. Describe your last 2-3 roles in detail, and limit older positions to 1-2 bullets.
Should I list B2B and B2C experience separately?▾
Not separately, but make it clear per role. Briefly mention the sector/context for each position (e.g. 'B2B SaaS' or 'e-commerce D2C'), so a recruiter can immediately see whether your experience is a fit.
I'm switching from another field into marketing, how do I approach this?▾
Emphasize transferable skills (analytical thinking, project management, communication) and mention relevant courses or certificates (Google Ads, HubSpot Academy) that show you're entering seriously.
