The story behind it

The story behind CVontwerper

No big company and no team of marketers. CVontwerper was made by one person, from one simple idea: job hunting should be fair, private and affordable.

Who's behind it?

Rinze Zijlstra

Founder and builder

I'm Rinze, and I built CVontwerper on my own, in the evenings next to my job, here in Nieuwegein. No investors, no noise. Just my laptop and the belief that it can be done better.

Why I built this

For my work I read countless CVs, because I constantly need new people. I've truly seen it all. And it's not just the layout that's often messy, the fonts can be painful too. Comic Sans on a job application, yes really. I sit on the other side of the table, so I know exactly what makes a CV fall flat and what makes it stand out.

When I wanted to recommend people a decent CV, I ran into the tools. You fill everything in, and then you can only download after a 'free' trial that quietly turns into a monthly subscription. Many people notice too late and keep paying for months for something they needed only once.

So I built the alternative I'd recommend myself: clean, professionally chosen fonts as the default (no Comic Sans in sight), a layout recruiters read comfortably, free to build and a one-time two euros to download.

What CVontwerper stands for

Fairly priced

A one-time two euros per download. No subscription, no automatic renewal and no surprises afterwards.

Your data stays yours

A CV is full of personal information. That's why CVontwerper works without an account and your data stays in your own browser, not on a server of mine.

For everyone

A strong first impression isn't only for people behind a desk. That's why there are also templates for mechanics, technicians and skilled tradespeople, with room for certificates like VCA and BHV.
